I am sure you can find all of Birmingham City's Councillors' email addresses on the BCC website.

The address is:

www.birmingham.gov.uk

Keep up the good work!

Hello everyone,

Many years ago I was librarian at the Museum of Science and Industry in Newhall Street, and was heartbroken to hear that the collections had been broken up and the museum closed. Norman Bertenshaw's dream was to open up the remainder of the derelict Elkington building for exhibits which had to be stored even then, and to use the canal arm for narrow boat exhibits.
I found the Think Tank expensive and disappointing when I visited.
What happened to the magnificent Orchestrion? Is that in storage? It provided the background music to my working day, along with the clunks, whistles and hoots of the working machinery.

Ian Scott.

Heartily seconded! This type of museum NEEDS to be in an old, authentic building to set the scene....Elkington's was ideal but we are where we are, so let's look forward

(now where have I heard that before?)

While Birmingham continues to demolish the past there is at least one important building still standing, the Norton factory at Bracebridge Street, occupied by Savery, a company with a longer tradition there than Norton. I have contacted the City Planning Department to get it listed, with no success. I am not resident in Brum so I can't lobby a councillor. If there are others who think Bracebridge Street would be a potential site for a museum, perhaps and conference centre I will be pleased to organise. A good start might be to contact Savery and see what they think, because as owners and occupiers they will have an impact on the outcome.
