Thanks JP,
I can remember the junction towering over the track, but I don't think that I ever said that it dissapeared because of the junction. Never mind it wasn't a very good track and I believe that Halesowen is still in use. But I think that Brum City should have somewhere that cyclists can safely train without the fear of getting mowed down by a car. I myself have ended up under cars in the Brum rush hour, but my guardian angel always brought me through without a scratch!
Here we have a two wonderful indoor tracks, one 166 meters, for the Ghent six day race every November, and a 250 meter track. Both provide space for other indoor sports and Ghent has only a fraction of the Birmingham population, yet they can do it, why not Brum? But get your museum built first. |

Here is my record breaking Salford Park track bike. It was on display at last months British Cycling Gala Dinner where I was inducted into the first 'Hall of Fame'. My bike has been fully restored with Tommy Godwin decals, pity that it was left to Manchester to honour me and my bike.

Fireman,
I'm not back and I don't need to promote myself! I posted the photos because they are part of Birmingham history and I feel that they should be recorded somewhere, if not here please tell me where. What could be more Brummie history than a real Brummie setting a record on a Tommy Godwin bike at a Brummie racing track? I know you might think I'm a boaster but those people that know me will tell you a different tale. If you're, as you pretend to be, so knowledgeable about cycling why don't you say something constructive.
Your comments don't do much to promote yourself, this forum or my hometown, jealousy is a terrible disese get a life. |

I for one enjoy your contributions, Graham . I used to buy cycling accessories etc. from Tommy Godwin's shop in Silver Street in King's Heath. I used to do cycling as my games option at school (King Edward VI on Vicarage Road...1967-74) The teacher who used to take us out was called Stan Bray - did you know him?
Wish I was still that fit these days!!!
Regards

Graham, you have not posted on here for over 12 months having found a group who will give you plenty of credit on The Birmingham History Forum. You would be better staying with them as many on here do not appreciate your need to constantly publicise your huge ego, especially when you tried to compare yourself with 9 times world champion Mike Hailwood. That laughable episode caused a lot of problems on here and if it were not for JP's attiude towards free speech, something the BHF do not seem understand, you would have been booted off. As it was JP had to spend along time deleting posts caused by yourself.
A true worthy champion does not need to constanly remind people of past achievements, take a leaf out of Tommy Godwin's book or even Mike Hailwoods. Self effacing people are always the most popular which is a lesson you should have learned by now at your age.
You also seem to have forgotten that you not only moved from Birmingham, you moved to another country to achieve your cycling sucess, you have in fact spent the largest part of your life in Belgium.
Tommy Godwin may not have been born in Birmingham but he has spent his working life helping local cyclists one of them being yourself. Perhaps if you had spent more of your time in the service of helping local cyclists rather than promoting yourself my attitude would be different. |

Can I remind everyone that this is an industrial history forum not a forum for promoting ego's.
If you have anything constructive to say about Birmingham industrial history please feel free to take part.
If your contribution is limited to 'My Dad worked at XXX' or you wish to help promote the Belgium cycling champion Graham Webb, you think the locomotive Tornado is a train or James Watt invented the steam engine, I recommmend you join the Birmingham History Forum.
